Our results-based reading courses are designed for children in kindergarten through 4th grade, however, we focus primarily on skill over age. Some of our 4 year-olds are reading at 1st and 2nd grade level, but some of our 9 year-olds are reading at 1st grade levels.

Classes are all live and online using Zoom and Nearpod and conducted in small groups to ensure personalized attention while fostering peer interaction.

I teach over Zoom while the lesson content is gamified and interactive using an app called Nearpod. Both of these apps are free to you and included in the purchase of each course.

Nearpod is best used on a tablet and it is recommended for students to utilize a 2nd touch device for live classes (one device for Zoom such as a computer and a tablet of some sort for Nearpod). However, if two separate devices are not available, one device will suffice.

Cumulative Lessons:

Each course includes 16 weeks of live, interactive lessons held twice a week for the cumulative portion of the course (the lessons build on each other and continue to get harder). It is recommended to not miss these classes.

Drop-In Lessons:

Included in each course is access to weekly Drop-In lessons to come to as your child needs. These are open to every student currently enrolled with Shields Scholars and you can pick and choose which classes to attend. Attend none or attend them all. 

BONUS:

For each child who attends 2 Drop-In lessons in a week, they are invited to a free Roblox social class on Saturdays at 10 am PT / 12 pm CT / 1 pm ET as a reward.

1:1 Assessments:

Also included in each course are 1:1 assessments every 5 weeks to make sure they are on level with their course and if there are any struggles, we can identify them ASAP and address them as needed.

Assessments are private for each student/parent and not shared with anyone else in their cohort. I will update each child's learning portal with individual writeups, information, and resources depending on their results for each assessment.

We guarantee that your child will progress through an entire grade level in reading by the end of the course. If not, they can continue in the program at no extra cost until they reach the next grade level.

Should your child need to stay past the 16 weeks, the Drop-In lessons and 1:1 Assessments are what they will rely on attending.

With these courses, you are enrolling for results, not being charged per hour of tutoring.

We assess each student’s reading level individually every 5 weeks using several different assessment materials including Fountas and Pinnell and DIBELS.

Fountas and Pinnell gives me a good idea on their reading level overall and then based on that result, we will go over DIBELS for that grade level and time of year to separate each reading facet to identify strengths and weaknesses in reading skill.

Depending on the course you decide to enroll your child, there will be standardized goals to work toward and after each assessment you will be given a writeup with their results as well as directions on how to continue to scale.

Each class is small, with no more than 6 students per cohort, to ensure every child gets the support they need. 

Drop-In lessons can range on student attendance depending on who decides to drop in to that class on a particular day.

Assessments are always just your child in attendance.

Cumulative cohort classes are held twice a week at scheduled times. Enrollment spaces are extremely limited and each course is only opened three times per year.

We strongly advise your child attends the cumulative lessons every week, however, if an absence is unavoidable, every lesson is recorded and uploaded into the learning portal within their cohort. You will have access to their cohort for the life of program even after their 16 weeks is up. 

Nearpod lessons are also available in student-paced mode for each lesson so your child still has the opportunity to play the games.

Drop-In lesson recordings are available, but only for a limited time.

**Recordings are subject to permanent deletion should anything private or inappropriate be seen or shared on camera including nudity, swearing, or personal information.  

Each course is priced at $1,000 USD per student, however, subsequent sibling enrollments are able to enroll at 50% off of the purchase price.

For example, if you have three siblings you'd like to enroll, student #1 will enroll at the full price of $1,000 USD. Student #2 is able to enroll at just $500. Student #3 is able to enroll at also $500. This makes the total for 3 kids $2,000 instead of $3,000.
